Privacy Policy — Browsec VPN: DNS Benchmark
What this app collects, why it collects it, and what you can ask us to delete.
Browsec VPN: DNS Benchmark is a free iOS app published by RS PETROL. The “VPN” wording is part of the Browsec brand. This app benchmarks DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) providers from within the app. It does not run a VPN, change your device DNS settings, or route other apps' traffic.
What a benchmark sends
When you start a test, the app sends controlled DNS questions for the selected example domain to the DoH providers you chose. It measures response time and whether the answers are valid. A provider receives the question and the network information normally visible for an HTTPS request, such as your IP address. A custom provider you add receives those test questions too. The app does not send your browsing history to these providers.
The app keeps up to 30 completed benchmark runs, your provider selection and any custom provider URL on your device. You can delete individual saved runs in History. The benchmark itself does not send your saved history to our service.
Optional AI explanation
If you tap “Explain these results with AI,” the app sends the selected run's provider names, response counts, latency and reliability measurements, example test domain and language to our service at browsec.space. Our service forwards that measurement summary to the GOWALK AI gateway, which forwards it to OpenAI to generate a plain-language explanation. The AI explanation is informational and can be inaccurate; the measured result remains available separately. We do not send your browsing history or device DNS settings to the AI service.
For this optional feature, the app creates a random installation identifier and signing key. The private key stays in the iOS secure store. Our service stores the corresponding public key, a short-lived session-token hash, generated AI answers and any report you submit about an answer. Reports contain the optional reason you type and are available to our team to review the issue. Our service uses a hash of the connection address, request nonces and counters to resist abuse and limit AI usage. Address-hash counters are removed as requests continue after two days; expired nonces are removed as requests continue. The service may see the IP address that connects to it, as is normal for a network request. We do not use these data for advertising or cross-app tracking.
The first-run guide
The hosted introduction loads from browsec.space. Its address carries the app's bundle identifier, language, platform and the instruction to show the free introduction. When the current App Store country is Russia and active cellular service is confirmed, the address also carries one success marker keyed by this app's App Store identifier. If either condition is unavailable or fails, the marker is omitted. Individual country and cellular results stay in memory on the device for that process. Receipt, provisioning-profile, Simulator status and installed-app URL schemes are not collected for this decision. The marker goes only to this app's hosted introduction, not its legal pages, other links or analytics. It does not identify a person or establish how or why the app was installed. The checks do not read carrier identities or request phone permissions.
The app stores whether you completed the introduction on your device so that it does not repeat after completion. On an eligible first launch, an optional invitation asks whether you want to rate the app. Accepting requests the store's native review sheet; the store decides whether to display it. Declining or dismissing leaves all features available. A durable local marker consumes the invitation opportunity on the first launch, even when it is skipped.
Retention and your choices
AI answers and reports remain on our service until you delete them. In About, “Copy AI data” copies your stored AI answers and reports as JSON, and “Delete AI data” removes those answers, reports and the active installation identity from our service, then removes the app's local signing key. This does not delete benchmark runs saved on your device. A minimal retired identifier and public key remain on the service to prevent old signed requests from re-creating deleted data. You can generate a new AI identity by using the AI feature again.
You can use benchmarking without AI. You can delete local runs in History or remove the app to remove its local data. If you need help with access, deletion, or a privacy concern, use the Browsec DNS Benchmark Support form. The form asks for an email address and message, and optionally a name and subject. It routes your request privately to our team. We use those details to respond to your request and retain the correspondence until the request is resolved or you ask us to remove it.
Other services and changes
The hosted first-run guide loads from browsec.space. The app has no ads, account sign-in, analytics SDK, purchase, or tracking permission request. We may update this policy if the app's data handling changes. The current version is available at this URL.
